Notes: is food art?

A tree falls

There was a performance artwork that was not documented in any way. No images were taken, no film or sound recordings, no writing, no witnesses. It only existed in the memory of the artist. If they never shared it with anybody, it would gradually vanish, dissolving into thousands of other such performance works.
These performances usually took place three times a day.

An artist prepares and consumes a meal. The food is a product of their taste, their culture, their skill, their creativity, their habits, their budget, their materials and tools, their time and effort, and the element of chance. It might be made solely for themselves, or they may intend to share it with others, and this too may affect the outcome. Essentially, the process is no different to the way they make art.

If food can be considered art, does this mean the artwork itself is destroyed after its creation? Or does the artwork lie in the gesture itself, the act of preparing and eating?
